The following is a basic guideline for organizing and running a Freestyle BMX Competition:

1

Get yourself organized. Put together a team of people you can trust to help you with every aspect of organizing and running the competition. Running a quality event is hard but rewarding work, so the more tasks you can delegate to a reliable crew, the more ground you’ll be able to cover as a whole. Depending on the size of your event, volunteers can be a great resource too. See below for suggest individual responsibilities.

2

Decide what scale of competition to have, i.e. local, regional, national, etc. All events take a lot of hard work to make happen, but keep in mind that the bigger the event, the more effort it requires, especially from the organizer(s). You definitely get out of an event only what you put in. The size can be based largely on your financial resources. A local competition can be put together for a reasonably small amount of money, but regional and national events can take quite a bit of capital to run well.

3

Insurance is always a good idea. We carry both general and spectator liability. Although this does not cover the competitors, it does take care of any staff or spectator injury. We require all of our riders to have current health insurance and sign a release waiver. If a rider is under 18 years of age, they must have the waiver signed on site by a parent or legal guardian. If a parent or legal guardian can not be present, we do accept signed waivers as long as they are notarized. You should also check to see what kind of coverage the facility has if you are holding your event at an established bike/skate park.

4

Decide what competition disciplines to include, i.e. Vert, Park, Street, Flat and/or Dirt. The discipline(s) you chose will weigh heavily in your location choice.
