Mat Hoffman's Crazy Freakin' Stunt Show's final trip to Universal Studios Orlando was a special one. It was the end of our third straight year as the number one show at the park. We were all very proud about the fact that we got to entertain over a million people from all over the world over the course of three great years.
 The Grand Finale!
We brought our little show to Orlando three times a year. This winter run was to be our shortest to date, only six show days, but somehow it seemed fitting. Our longest run was a summer run that ran over 45 days, and at 6 shows a day, it really takes its toll on the riders. Our usual back stage green room was off limits to us this time, but we had been give the use of a nice 40-foot trailer to rest our weary bodies in between shows. It also proved a very comfortable place to hold our traditional between show time killer – Texas Hold ‘Em.
The crew this time consisted of myself, Jay Eggleston, Dave Brumlow, Dave Voelker, Matt Wilhelm, Max Dufour and Phil Hajal. We had all done many shows together and this group has great chemistry. All of the riders that have done this show over the years have been absolutely incredible. There were very few instances where any friction ever arose and when it did, it usually proved to be more comical that anything. I also can’t say enough about the Universal stage crew we got to work with over the years. They were the backbone of the show and a huge part of its success.
The weather in Orlando during the winter months is close to perfect and the shows went off without a hitch. The theatre was packed during every show and the crowds were great. The riding was incredible all week, but the last show of a run is always the one to see. Dave Voelker is amazing and always kills it at the last show. You don’t see him much in magazines or videos nowadays since he doesn’t compete or wear girls’ jeans, but he is still one of the best riders out there. He helped invent “street” riding back in the 80’s and has as much natural ability on a bike as I’ve ever seen. There’s nothing Dave Voelker couldn’t do on a bike if he put his mind to it.
I’d be lying if I said there wasn’t a little sadness in the air all week. Knowing that this was our final run in the Toon Amphitheatre left us all feeling a little sentimental. We had all invested many months of our lives in that show every year for the last three years and we have all developed a life long bond as friends and in a way, a family. For me, that’s what these shows were all about.
